一、兰州大学简介  
    兰州大学是国家教育部直属的重点综合性大学,是国家“985工程”和“211工程”重点建设高校之一。学校创建于1909年,始为甘肃法政学堂,1945年定名为国立兰州大学。
    学校坐落在黄河之滨的甘肃省省会——兰州市,校园面积3828亩,建有8个校区,有3所附属医院。学校现有84个本科专业,187个硕士学位授权专业,56个博士学位授权专业,12个博士后科研流动站。在职教职工4202人,有专任教师1758人,其中教授等正高职388人、副教授等副高职822人,博士生导师280人,两院院士9人。在校本科生18207人,硕、博研究生9190人。毕业生素以基础扎实、勤奋实干而深受社会欢迎。自建校以来,已为国家培养了10多万名各类人才。美国《科学》周刊曾评出了中国13所最杰出的大学,其中兰州大学位列第六。
    兰州大学学科特色鲜明、门类齐全。有化学化工、信息科学与工程、物理科学与技术、数学与统计、文学、历史文化、哲学社会、经济、外国语、艺术、管理、生命科学、药学、临床医学、基础医学、公共卫生、口腔医学、继续教育、网络教育、国际文化交流等25个学院,涵盖了11个学科门类。兰州大学的科学研究素以基础研究见长,同时广泛开展应用研究。平均每年发表学术论文1000多篇。据SCI统计,兰州大学是中国在国际学术刊物上发表论文最多、引用率最高的大学之一。2007年学校被SCI收录的科技论文数居全国高校第20位,科技论文被SCI期刊引用数居全国高校第13位。
    兰州大学积极发展对外交流合作,与世界多个国家和地区的80多所高校和科研机构建立了学术交流关系,有1300多位外籍专家学者应邀来校交流讲学。有专门从事外国留学生教育的国际文化交流学院,累计已接受各国留学生1000多名。

(一)长期汉语进修生
    学习期限:半年以上,分为初级汉语班、中级汉语班、高级汉语班

    选修课:书法、武术、中国熟语、商务汉语、HSK辅导、中国历史、中国民俗、中国画入门、丝绸之路文化等

注:学生第一学期必须到学校指定的寓所范围选择住宿,从第二学期后可选择校外住宿,但需签定《校外住宿安全协议书》,提供租房合同复印件并到当地派出所办理住宿登记。
(二)就餐
    留学生可在校外及校内食堂(设有清真餐厅)就餐,也可在公用厨房自己做饭。
    在兰州市基本生活费用一般约400-600元/人/月。
(三)医疗
    留学生可在校内医院就医,也可在附近甘肃省人民医院、兰州大学第一、第二医院就医。
(四)交通
    学校地处兰州市区东部繁华地带,距火车站1公里,交通便捷。超市、银行、邮局、公共汽车站等生活、服务设施齐全。

五、夏季修学项目
    中华文明历史悠久,博大精深。横贯中国西部的“丝绸之路”构成了一条古老而辉煌的人类“文化运河”。它作为历史的见证人,拥有众多的历史文化古迹,成为人类共有的遗产。
    甘肃省位于丝绸之路的黄金段,是中华民族和华夏文明的发祥地之一。其境内广泛分布着众多珍贵的历史文化遗产:长城关隘、楼阁塔碑、石窟寺庙、历史文物。
    兰州大学国际文化交流学院为了使学习汉语的外国朋友获得更多的学习实践机会,身临其境地感受中国西部文化,增强对于中国西部“丝绸之路“上的历史、地理、文化的认识,我院拟于每年5-10月组织2-3次西部文化修学考察活动,每期15-21天。考察活动包括汉语听力口语强化训练、专题讲座及观光、考察等内容。
注:具体课程和旅游线路可根据需要进行适当调整,费用依据课程及线路的不同有所差别,全部费用在3000-7000元之间(不含出入境旅费)。

Lanzhou University

 

I. An introduction to Lanzhou University

 

Lanzhou University (LZU) is a key university under the direct administration of the Ministry of Education MOE, and one of the top 38 national universities supported by MOE. It was previously named Gansu Law and Politics School, which was founded in 1909. In 1945, It was renamed Lanzhou National University.

LZU, located in Lanzhou, the capital city of Gansu province at the upper stream of the Yellow River, occupies an area of 3,828 acres and includes 8 campuses and 3 affiliated hospitals.

Today LZU offers 84 bachelor programs, 187 master programs, 56 doctoral programs and 12 Post-doctoral R&D specialties. The university has 4,202 staffs, of which 1,758 are full-time teachers, including 388 professors, 822 associate professors, 280 Ph.D. supervisors and 9 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Chinese Academy of Engineering. There are 18,207 undergraduates, 9,190 master and doctoral students in the university. To date LZU has cultivated more than 100,000 talented students of varying specialties after establishment, most of which have been well acknowledged and have produced excellent achievements. As a testament to LZU’s progress, “Science”, a prestigious journal in the U.S., rated it as the 6th most prominent university out of China’s top 13 universities.

 

LZU has a long and rich history and has offered study programs in a full range of disciplines. The university consists of 25 schools covering 11 disciplines, including School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, School of Information Science and Engineering, School of Physical Science and Technology, School of Mathematics and Statistics, School of Chinese Language and Literature, School of History and Culture, School of Philosophy and Sociology, School of Economics, School of Foreign Languages and Literature, School of Arts, School of Management, School of Life Science, School of Pharmacy, School of Clinical Medicine, School of Basic Medicine, School of Public Health, School of Stomatology, School of Continuing Education, School of Network Education and the School of International Cultural Exchange. By placing emphasis on basic theoretical research, LZU has made significant achievements in the field of applied research with on average more than 1,000 academic works published each year. According to statistics provided by the Scientific Citation Index (SCI), LZU is one of the universities with contributions to academic publications in international journals and has been frequently cited by leading research institutions from around the world. In 2007, the university ranked twentieth in contributions to scientific papers included by SCI and ranked thirteenth in SCI journal citations.

 

LZU is active in developing international academic exchange and cooperation programs. The university has established relationships with universities and research institutions in more than 80 countries and regions and more than 1,300 foreign experts and scholars have been invited to teach and conduct scientific research at the university. The School of International Cultural Exchange is the institution responsible for international students education programs and has received over 1,000 international students from all around the world.

III. Application details

(I) Long-term Chinese language learning program

Duration of major studies: at least half a year,

Types of class: elementary class, intermediate class, advanced class.

Compulsory courses: comprehensive Chinese, Chinese speaking, Chinese listening, Chinese pronunciation and characters, Chinese culture, Chinese composition, Chinese grammar, selected reading of articles from Chinese newspapers and magazines.

Elective courses: Chinese calligraphy, Chinese Kongfu, Chinese idioms, business Chinese, guidance on Chinese Proficiency Test (HSK), Chinese history, Chinese folklores, introduction

to Chinese painting, culture of silk road, etc.

Application, registration & start dates: from March to December each year

Tuition fee: RMB 5500 / semester, RMB11000 / academic year

Registration fee: RMB 500

Eligibility: Applicants must have completed at least senior high school (or equivalent) and be 18 years old or older and in good health.

Procedures:

1. Applicants may submit their application materials to the School of International Cultural Exchange of Lanzhou University by either post or email.

2. The School of International Cultural Exchange will review all documents and send the admission notice and visa application form for study in China (JW202) to the qualified applicants.

3. Applicants should take the admission notice, visa application form for study in China (JW202), foreigner’s physical examination form to apply for the “X” visa at their local Chinese Embassy. (All above-mentioned documents should be original)

IV. Guide for living on campus

Note: It is compulsory for the international students to be accommodated  for the first semester but may choose to live outside the campus after the second semester, but they should  sign a safety agreement for International Students and submit a copy of their rental contract to the office. They must also register their address with the nearest police station for accommodation registration.

 

II) Food

International students may choose to have their daily meals at the canteen located in the main campus or at the restaurants located outside the campus. The basic living expenses in Lanzhou is estimated at RMB 400—600 per month.

 

III) Medical service

The university clinic can provide medical service for all international students, and it is very convenient for students to visit the Provincial People’s Hospital or No.1 and No.2 Hospital of Lanzhou University, all of which are in the vicinity of the main campus.

 

IV) Transportation

Lanzhou University is located in the downtown area in the east part of Lanzhou City, just 1 km from the city’s railway station. The location is central and makes travel convenient to anywhere in the city. There are abundant service facilities around the university including supermarkets, banks, post offices and bus stations, etc.

 

V. Summer program

The Chinese civilization is famous for its long history and rich culture. The great silk road, winding across the western part of China, constituted the most ancient and the unique method of communication amongst human beings. There are many historical and cultural sites along the Silk Road, creating a marvelous culture in these areas and the great heritage of mankind.

 

Gansu province, the birthplace of the Chinese nationality and rich Chinese culture, lies in the golden section of the Silk Road. Within the boundaries of the province, one can find a great variety of valuable historical and cultural heritages such as the ancient great wall and passes, towers, pagodas and steles, along with the splendid grottoes, temples and rich historical relics.

 

In order to provide an opportunity for Chinese learners from around the world to experience the sights and acquire an understanding of the charm of the western Chinese culture while at the same time explore the history, geography and culture of the wonderful Silk Road, the International Cultural Exchange School of Lanzhou University has created a new project which allows students to both study and explore the western culture for two or three sessions

 

 

from May to October per year. These sessions will be 15—21 days in length and will consist of intensive training in Chinese speaking and listening as well, lectures, tour and various forms of cultural learning.

Note: the exact amount of courses and tours may be adjusted depending on the demand and the specified requirement of the participants. According to the different courses and tours, the full cost will range from RMB3,000—RMB7,000 (International travel costs are not included).
